Sendero has officially opened its doors. Offering a retreat-like experience that embraces the idyllic lifestyle of Nosara, Costa Rica, Sendero immerses guests into the local community through thoughtful design, beautiful amenities and commitment to nature.

Bordering preserved land on Nosara's lush coastline, the boutique hotel features 25 guest rooms facing the surrounding jungle. Sendero - Spanish for a short path - is named for the less than a two-minute walk from the hotel's lobby through the jungle to the sands of Playa Guiones, the five-mile stretch of preserved beaches and world-famous surf spot.

Inspired by the surrounding jungles and preserved lands, Sendero was built with sustainability top of mind, mainly using locally-sourced and recycled materials found in traditional Costa Rican architecture. Fitted to complement the textures, colors and patterns found in its natural surroundings, Sendero’s structural elements blend with the hacienda-style commonly found throughout Nosara through the use of wood beams, arches and overhangs to ceramic tiling. Additionally, Sendero takes pride in its advanced sustainability initiatives, from its drinking water to irrigation, solar panels, and in-room amenities, to its construction – most notably reflected by the mature tree that stands in the hotel’s bar and up through the restaurant’s ceiling, which was carefully designed and executed as not to disturb the tree or bird nests that reside there.

“At the onset of the pandemic, I had the unintended pleasure of being ‘stuck’ in Nosara and immediately fell in love with the sense of community and lifestyle that Costa Rica is passionately known for,” said Stefanie Tannenbaum, Co-Founder of Sendero. “It inspired my partners and me to create Sendero – a retreat that aims to bring ‘Pura Vida’ to life. A place where you can feel as deeply rooted as the trees on our property. A place to nurture your spirit through wellness, art, relaxation and adventure. Nosara has perfected the art of valuing time, and we’re perfecting the path to enjoy it. Sendero is not only your path to the beach to catch a morning wave but your path to connecting with and feeling energized by the nature that encapsulates you from our open lobby to our rooms.”

Sendero boasts three types of luxury accommodations to meet the needs of each traveler and how they want to experience Nosara:

  • Suites – Consisting of a private bedroom with a custom-built plush bed and a separate living area with a pullout sofa, Sendero’s suites are a luxurious treat for travelers.
  • Jungle Room – Sendero’s signature room allows guests to have an indoor/outdoor living experience with the room’s completely outdoor shower that overlooks the neighboring 11-acre nature preserve.
  • King Room – Embrace the beautiful simplicity of Nosara with a private balcony overlooking the hotel’s jungle courtyard

With wellness and community at the heart of the Nosaran culture, Sendero’s location and overall design allows guests to seamlessly explore the town known for yoga, surfing, relaxed vibes, and more. Throughout the day, guests can join certified instructors to find their zen at Sendero’s Yoga Studio for a variety of yoga and fitness classes or relax by the pool, which is located at the heart of the hotel. Guests looking to experience the surfer's paradise can head to Sendero’s on-property Surf School, which is run entirely by members of the local community, to rent a board or take a lesson to catch Playa Guiones’ famous year-round waves. Furthering its mission to give back to and advance the community, Sendero has partnered with DeCerca to curate a rotating art gallery in the hotel’s lobby and outfit each guest room with art from established and up-and-coming Costa Rican contemporary art talent, all available for purchase.

Sendero’s restaurant and Bar, Talise, offers guests and locals alike a seasonal menu that is curated daily by Executive Chef Joshua Smith. Diners are invited to experience Nosara’s “simple but meaningful” way of life through locally sourced food. From rich Costa Rican coffee in the morning, après surf bites in the afternoon and elevated dining in the evening, Talise is complete with local and fresh ingredients and is where guests and the local community can relax and mingle.

In addition to its key amenities, Sendero guests can also receive exclusive access to Outpost, the members-only co-working space from Sendero’s same founding team. The first-of-its-kind workspace is fully equipped with private offices and meeting rooms, communal workspaces, a library, cafe, rooftop and storage, showers and suit laundry service. The perfect place to find your “work/Pura Vida balance” in Nosara.
